I thought this article was very interesting. In the beginning, it basically states that people everywhere benefit from technology. It is easier to find information and therefore people want to learn and it benefits them. Although the article does state that technology doesn’t replace basic human traits, it does support reasons why digital enhancement and other new tools of technology are enhancing the world of wisdom and knowledge as we know it. This article is very relevant to education and my role as a teacher because it affects both the students and teachers of today’s world. It is important for the very reason I’m taking this class. It is important to be able to understand what’s happening in the world and stay up to date with technology. As the article states, “Digital wisdom is a twofold concept, referring both to wisdom arising from the use of digital technology to access cognitive power beyond our innate capacity and to wisdom in the prudent use of technology to enhance our capabilities.” Teachers are constantly trying to prove that they understand and can use technology. From the article, Fast Forward into the Future by Jay Goldman, one teacher goes to lengths to prove he’s technology savvy. I think his situation is exactly what Marc Prensky is advocating for in his article. Something that teachers may find interesting is the knowledge based expert system. According to PCAI, Where Intelligent Technology Meets the Real World, they “use human knowledge to solve problems that normally would require human intelligence. These expert systems represent the expertise knowledge as data or rules within the computer. These rules and data can be called upon when needed to solve problems.” Teachers and educators everywhere can incorporate this in their classroom to help improve students’ learning while also using technology. Digital wisdom can be taught, but it is up to us to take a stand and do it.
